I just found a very insightful and interesting article over at RoboticsTrends.com,
that discusses the future of robotics in the various regions of the US.
The article, written by Dr. Pete Markiewicz, looks at various trends to
determine where the "robotvalley" will show up.
The abstract reads:
Will Silicon Valley, the unquestioned center of the computer tech
boom, also become the 'Silicon Valley' of robotics? According to Pete
Markiewicz, the Valley mindset, along with the other factors that
created the virtual worlds of the PC and Internet, might not be well
suited to the development of devices that must operate in the
rough-and-tumble of the real world.
You can check out Dr. Markiewicz's website at http://www.plyojump.com/bio/
So, where do you think "robotvalley" will crop up?

Reuter's had a breif blurb
about Toyota's statment that it plans to be selling a line of helper
robots by 2010. Japan's aging population is one of the major reasons we
see so many new and cool robots from the land of the rising sun.
New Scientist writes more about this, but you have to be a subscriber to read the whole thing.

Today I went to Atmel's 2005 Microcontroller Seminar series in my
lovely homeown. I usually like to attend these because 1) they give
away cool stuff and 2) there is usually a good lunch involved.
This time 'round I didn't win anything, but the lunch was good.
They gave out their (now) standard Butterfly kit,
based on the AVR Mega 169. It comes with some nifty software (you can
display a geeky scrolling nametag) and a bootloader so you can quickly
upload new programs via AVR Studio. You can solder headers to the provided through-holes and use it as a nice and compact robot controller.
Digikey sells it for $20.

Welcome folks to the new GoRobotics.net website.
Basically, the old site was just too finicky to really be useful so I
decided to change it over to an established CMS (content management system
for the uninitiated) so I wouldn't have to worry about coding, but could
concentrate on bringing you all the best of today's robotics related news
and hacks.
I've got some cool plans for the future (near and far) but right now it's
pretty barebones.
You can still find all the original articles under the "Articles" link up
top. When I post a new article you find it right here on the front page
along with all the latest news.
Since "blogging" seems to be the current cool trend, and since I consider
myself to be a cool kid, I'm shifting the focus a bit to a more bloggish
feel.
More updates (days instead of months between updates) more frequently.
News posts. Interviews. And, whatever else I (and y'all) feel like.
BUT, I need your help. Shoot me e-mail at

Happy robot hacking!
