US Military Nixes Plan for Killer Drone, Long Range Bomber Instead |

According to DefenseTech, the Joint Unmanned Combat Air Systems (J-UCAS) project has been canceled and replaced with a Defense Department project to develop a long range unmanned bomber. Military.com writes,
The Defense Department will begin work this year on a next-generation
long-range strike aircraft, accelerating its bomber modernization plans
by nearly two decades in an effort to quickly enhance the Air Force's effectiveness across the Asia-Pacific region.
J-UCAS was originally intended to knock out enemy air defenses, do surveilance, and jam radars, paving the way for manned aircraft. The new long-range bomber project is instead intended for directly attacking enemy targets. With the current bomber fleet, consisting of the very old B-52s, the B-2 stealth bombers, and B-1s, the military needs a solution that has the, "ability to remain airborne for many, many hours; the means to fly very
long distances; and the ability to carry significant numbers of bombs." (Military.com)
