RunBot: The Fastest Bipedal Robot on Record
New Scientist has an article a new passive-dynamic biped. The robot is the result of a collaboration between the University of Göttingen in Germany, the University of Glasgow and the University of Stirling. Their work is detailed in the International Journal of Robotic Research (vol 25, issue 3).
Coined RunBot, the robot walks via a central pattern generator and achieves speeds up to 3.5 leg-lengths per second.Technically, this makes it the fastest bipedal robot to date. Let us hope that RunBot does not show up at any walker competitions this year.
